Dash Cam Guide
A quality dash cam will help determine which driver was responsible in the event of an accident and help with insurance claims.
However there are a number of different types. A multiple-lens dash cam has a forward facing camera to record in front of the car and another to record inside the car. They both record at the same time.
Legal Considerations
Some dash cams attach to the rear view mirror which is useful in states where windshield mounts are illegal.
GPS
A dash cam with GPS capability digitally stamps the recording with the time, date, and location of the video.
Footage Protection
In an accident if the dash cam detects motion or an impact it starts recording as a sudden stop triggers the G-Sensor, this detects a sudden change in motion and locks the dash cam footage of the incident to stop it being overwritten by the loop recording feature.
Loop Recording
Loop recording lets the dash cam continue recording footage when your MicroSD card runs out of space by recording over old footage. In an accident footage protection stops the dash cam overwriting vital evidence.
Storage
You will also need an SD or Micro-SD card to record footage on to, not all cameras provide one with the camera.
